Do You Own Any Bits of Aircraft?
Does anyone own part of a WWII dive bomber? Oh, wait - I do!
This is a throttle quadrant I picked up from eBay last week - following research online, I am pretty certain it's from an SB2C Helldiver.
It's all seized up, but one of my friends owns an aircraft instrumentation restoration and refurbishment company, so I'll enlist his help in how to tackle it so that the levers are operable.
I also own a variety of aircraft instruments, a WWII bomber astro compass, and various little bits of aircraft, including B-36 and F-86 parts, as well as a piece of the Loch Ness Wellington's geodetic framework. I suspect my wife thinks I'm sneaking a full size aeroplane kit into the house....

Nice quadrant
Probably just light corrosion on the levers preventing them from moving
In a roundabout sort of way.
One of the Austin 7 racers I own is a special built in the 1950s by a pilot. He used aluminium skin from an aeroplane for the car body coach work

If we find a enough bits maybe we can cobble together a Whif

Now that is really nice Paul. Antique aircraft owners will tell you it all starts with the first part you obtain.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

I know what you mean .jssel wrote:Now that is really nice Paul. Antique aircraft owners will tell you it all starts with the first part you obtain.
I do have a few bits and bobs. Oldest piece is a small model boat made from pieces of a crashed Spitfire, the hull is perspex and the sails are copper
In the loft (somewhere) is a fuse box cover from a B25, It was from the one called 'Gorgeous George Ann' in the film Hanover street.
I also have a turbine guide vane from one of the two Mig 29's that collided at RAF Fairford.
In the loft I have some small solid hydraulic pipe and a section of fuselage skin from an AV8A
Also a pitot tube from a Harrier GR3
And last but not least....this.
It's the fuselage of a 1947 Cessna 140. It'll never fly again and will be a mobile exhibit when done. As you can see there is extensive front end damage from a crash some 18 years ago. Since these photos were taken because of a misunderstanding the tail has been cut off just behind the cockpit but it is still there and can be re-attached though it'll be a difficult repair.
doubt I'll get it done for the 'large scale aircraft' G/B though
I'm also in the process of trying to acquire another 1/1 scale project, but more on that if and when it happens.
All the best.

At various times in the past I owned part interests in a Piper J-3, Taylorcraft L-2, and a Aeronca L-16. But today probably the most interesting thing I have is a small sample of wood from a ex-Spartan Air Service Mosquito, complete with vintage interior green paint.

Well, I think all we need now is a pair of wings and an engine and we're all set!Gregers wrote:In the loft (somewhere) is a fuse box cover from a B25, It was from the one called 'Gorgeous George Ann' in the film Hanover street.

Incidentally, a quick spray of WD-40 set those sticky levers to rights - all bar one badly corroded nut.

@paul I don't believe WD-40 is an authentic lubricant for the period.

Re: Do You Own Any Bits of Aircraft?
I have a patch of canvas cut from a Swordfish when they carried out a re-skin, it was given to me by one of the RN Historic Flight team.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.
