Yes, that's all very well but in what scale?Kitaholic wrote:You laid yourself a challenge, we expect to see it in 6 weeks
Great photo BTW
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Re: SA330MK
I don't see why not, both the MK and Puma are available in 1:72 scale I think. Shouldn't worry too much about the Hiab, that can be stowed.
It's only pain, work through it.

I am right in assuming the Puma is actually parked behind the Bedford, yes?wokka wrote:I don't see why not, both the MK and Puma are available in 1:72 scale I think. Shouldn't worry too much about the Hiab, that can be stowed.

Re: SA330MK
Here's the background to the photo.
It's Feb '86, the helicopter force took part in a major exercise in N. Germany. Temperatures dropped to -17C at night and rose to -11C during the day. On the Friday before the exercise was due to start a Puma of 230 Sqn shattered a high speed coupling between an engine and gearbox. The decision was made to check all couplings on all Pumas but with the exercise due to begin the aircraft could not be taken out of service. So the Field Maintenance Team comprising of 2nd Line servicing personnel from the Puma and Chinook Servicing Flight had to remove the engines and check/replace the couplings in the field.
What you see there is the work being carried out and possibly an engine change being done as well. It was so long ago I forget the fine details. The MK with a Hiab was used for heavy lifts which is what you see in front of the Puma. Once the aircraft is back together it's then a flight test and back on to tasking. The second Puma hovering above had it's couplings checked and was returning from a flight test.

A great pic, and would make an excellent diorama. (and nope, not volunteering to do it)
