Classic Fighters Omaka 2017 air show 15 April
Posted: April 29th, 2017, 3:40 am
This venue is well-known worldwide as the Aviation Heritage Centre sponsored by Peter Jackson and responsible for WWI restorations and replicas.
For the airshow weekend, there are many visiting aircraft as well.
Here are a selection of pics from the show for your viewing pleasure.
Among others, I finally got to see that gorgeous, restored Anson Mk.1 in the flesh (and in the air), and also a restored DH Dove I wasn't expecting! Plus 3 Spitfires, 2 P-40s, 7 Fokker Triplane replicas, 6 Harvards, 2 Yak-3s, 2 DC-3s, Venom, RAAF C-27, RNZAF C-130, NH-90 and Seasprite helos, Corsair, Avenger and even a flying replica V-1 (attacked in the air by the Spitfire XIV, a la FROG!). All in the air and on the ground. The on-site WWI aviation museum is also World class. Also, an on-site car museum (1960s-1980s).
Above: "Wo gehen die Jungs?"
The Anson is not on fire, thank goodness; it was just making smoke for its flying display!
The full-size V-1 is radio-controlled and landed safely!
Three Spitfires including one 2-seater. The Mk.XIV has been rebuilt after a serious ground-loop many years ago (the perils of hopping from a Merlin-engined Spitfire into a Griffon-engined Spitfire! Opposite rudder trim required!)
Photos taken with my Olympus O-MD E-M5 DSLR micro four thirds camera.
The show is on again in 2019, at Easter.
Hope you like this sample!
