Wings over Illawarra airshow 6 May 2017

Post by skypirate »

First time I have attended this airshow at Albion Park airport south of Sydney, which is the base of operations for the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) in Australia. The HARS team is responsible for 'Connie' flying as well as a Neptune (one of 3), a Caribou, the first Boeing 747 flown by Qantas and many other restoration projects.
This weekend Connie had not returned from the paint shop, but I have enjoyed photographing her in the air previously.
Here are a selection of photos. Some aircraft were visiting from other collections (e.g. the Spitfire VIII from Temora).

The RAAF Roulettes in their PC-9s put on one of the best performances I have seen them do.

The Hunter is for sale, lacking only an ejection seat to be airworthy. Looks like an ex-Singaporean aircraft. I could be wrong.

This Pitts Special put on the best aerobatics show I have seen so far in Australia. Big motor makes a big difference!

Good old Wirraway!

There are a few T-28s on the Aussie register.

And the highlight for many was the FW-190 from Albury. Unfortunately it did not fly on Saturday due to brake trouble (fixed the next day, dammit!)

Looks like a great day out with some classic aircraft. The Hunter looks great in that scheme and the Pitts looks like a handful even in a still shot, it must have been great to watch.
Thank you for posting them all!
Best wishes

Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing
