This lightning F6 XR753 is a Gate Guardian at RAF Coningsby, it is stood at 11 Squadron car park and not generally seen by the public, looking a bit sorry for itself at the moment.
The yellow plate shows its history from its berth in 1965 as a Mk F3a on to 1968 when it was modified to a MK F6 standard and on to 1988 when it was retired, it eventually made its final move to RAF Coningsby in 2005.
We have 5 fast jet gate guardians at RAF Coningsby, 2 x Lightnings, 1 x Harrier, 1 x Hawker Hunter and a Tornado, none of which are easy to see by the public. I will try and get around them all and put them on the forum in the next week or so.

A start on my first kit a Hawker Hurricane as been made, a spitfire awaits in the wings and thinking about models to come.

Useful reference material Billy, will be interested to see the others when you are able
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Nice pics. Not fenced off either, so you can have a real close look. Even has the boarding ladder for a peek in the cockpit.

Sorry my mistake it's a Phantom, not a Hunter, I walk past it at least twice a day. I know its a Phantom, no idea why I wrote Hunter, maybe subconsciously I want to build one.Maverick231 wrote:Nice pics and awesome info but what happened to the Phantom?
