Mystery aircraft

Post by Brickie »

As we taxied around Lisbon airport last Friday, I spotted something military-looking out of the window. Sadly, getting a photo was impractical but I was curious sa to what it was. It was dark green, had the look of a small cargo plane - twin prop engines and a boxy fuselage. Bit like a Twin Otter or something like that. Had an Italian roundel and black serial number on the fuselage but I can't see anything listed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_Ai ... _inventory that comes close to its appearance.

Ideas?

High wing/low wing? Pointy nose/blunt nose? Tail shape? Turboprop/piston?

only saw it from the back quarter, and it was a week ago with much excitement in between so I'm a little hazy.

High wing, didn't see the nose, single tail, wouldn't know the difference.

Much smaller than that, and more slab-sided IIRC.

The Short 330 and Skyvan have twin tails. The Short 360 has a single fin; which Brickie remembers.

Would seem to be the most likely - tons in service in Iberia.

Yeah, I just didn't think the Italian Air Force had any.

It was painted a dark olive, and had a small roundel that was either French or Italian (it was too small/far away to be absolutely certain the middle dot was green), with a black serial number (two groups separated by a full stop) that I seem to recognise as Italian.

If it is in Italian service;
The closest I can come up with is the Dornier 228;
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Italy--- ... d2ff688890;
They have no other slab-sided twin engined high-wing monoplanes currently in service.
If its not the Do228, then it must be from another country.
