I am having a few months off from building at the moment to concentrate on other projects but should get back into the swing of things before the end of the year.
Meanwhile I have some photos of the Airday to post but have left out the ones of the Fury crash as I suspect most of you have seen it on the news, if not then I could add them later if so required.
The airday itself to my mind was the best I have been to there for a very long time with a very interesting mix of aircraft and I actually came away from the show feeling very elated indeed.
The Sea Vixen, Skyraider and a fly though of two f-15's were no shows but I think I could live without them as seeing all that did fly was more than enough, so well done Culdrose.
The Sea fury crash landing.
Five minutes into the display and smoke appeared to be coming out from the engine.
Regards
Mark

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Nice one Mark, I do like the Sea King scheme.
Were the Harriers just ground bound?
Cheers

Yes Jim, unfortunately the Harriers were only taxiing up and down the runway though I suspect there were a lot of people in the crowd willing an accidental take off.
Still it was nice to see them moving and to hear them as well.

Mark, some great shots there. May I ask what camera and lens you were using? I presume you were on shutter priority or did you go manual?
Enjoyment over accuracy. That's my motto

Re: Culdrose Airday 2014 (30 photos)
Thanks for the interest Toby.
I used a 6MP Pentax K100d DSLR with a 300mm Tamron zoom lens attached to it, a set up that is knocking on for 9 years old now.
For the shots of aircraft with moving props I used a shutter priority between 125 and 160 depending on the speed of the aircraft to blur the moving parts, even though the lens when extended is long the camera has image stabilization so that helps a bit in getting sharpish images.
For aircraft in the air and without blades I put the camera into aperture priority mode with an f stop of f8 or f9. to have the clouds slightly out of focus.
