What Sailed By Your House Today ?

Post by JohnRatzenberger »

Just to lead off, I looked out the window this morning to see that Elizabeth II was sailing (motoring) up the Roanoke Sound.

E2 is a replica of the ship Elizabeth that brought the first colonists to the Outer Banks, and thus America, in 1587. The settlement did not survive and the honor of the first permanent settlement goes to the youngsters in Virginia, some 20 later.

Here is the Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roanoke_Colony;
and a link for the E2 http://roanokeisland.com/ElizabethTwo.aspx;

For reference, I live due east, across the sound from the Lost Colony and just down the road from the Kill Devil Hills where the First Flight took place ....

The only way I can contribute to this thread is to say "Nice!" - if anything sails past this place, I hope that rest of you are already organised into your two by two groups...then again, who knows, when we bought our guest house next door, there was a dinghy tied up to the deck...
Please critique my posts honestly i.e. say what you think so I can learn and improve...

We have two 780 foot iron ore bulk carriers in right now. Loading up for the trip to Cleveland. Gale winds predicted for this afternoon into tonight.
