Ark Royal to be scrapped.

Post by Chuck E »

Well, it's official, the Ark is going to be scrapped. They're not letting on about where though. It's shame, but ships don't last forever. She was taken out too soon though. The new ships won't even be ready until 2017 now and still no guarantee that there will be an aircraft to fly from them. What a shambles.

I think you have the story wrong - the Telegraph says she's being sold for scarp not scrap :)

Edit: Bah, they've fixed it, but its still in the URL you posted :)

She's probably of limited utility now with the ski jump occupying a good chunk of the flight deck and the Harriers all gone...and maintaining a warship as a historical display is damned expensive...

Such a sad story but acording to the Sun, the Navy are planning to preserve HMS Illustrious when it leaves service as its meant to be in a better condition ,s o we might have one of the carriers left perserved in the end

Well, they have all gone now, and still no carrier in service. Maybe next year.

A few memories here.
