Easier posting of images with Post Image.

After a little fiddling, we can now offer a much more streamlined method for uploading images from your computer to an image host and then inserting the image into a post.

Bear in mind that as yet I haven't even dreamt of testing this on a mobile device. It should work, provided you click the link on the mobile site that takes you to the desktop version of the forum. Maybe I will try that later.

With this caveat in mind, here's how it's done.

In the message editor (full editor or the quick reply box), underneath the text input area you should see a small link on the left hand side labelled "Add image to post". Like this:

Image

Click on that and a pop-up window will open. If it doesn't you may need to check your pop-up killer settings. Assuming all is well, this is what you should see:

Image

Browse for an image from your computer, and set the resize option from the dropdown box. You're going to want to select 800x600 (the maximum UAMF is set to allow) from the list. Click upload, and the forum software will use the Postimage plug-in to silently upload your image to an online host (Postimage.org, surprisingly enough) and then as if by magic it will paste the necessary code into your post without you lifting a finger. Which leaves much more time for beer. Always a good thing.

You don't need to have a postimage account to use this facility, but if you do have one you will be able to choose which of your albums the image will be stored in.

I just love simple, well executed, ideas. Thanks to the great folks at postimage.org for making this magic possible.

That is brilliant! Thanks! I have really struggled to post images this year: The downside is that you are now going to suffer the sight of some of my competed models ;-)

Serendipitous timing, as Imageshack are claiming that my account (paid subscription) doesn't exist any more (after their site was down yesterday). I'll try it out when i get home.

Should be great for ad-hoc images or posting from 'live' events.

Really, Greg..........a Russian F-4? Now that is just unnatural. :ha:

Unnatural but the real deal is rumoured to have been photographed three times. I've seen copies of two of the pics. One a satellite photo and the other is a view of it just after take off. The one I haven't seen but has been described to me is actually a pic of a TU95 taking off but there is the unmistakable shape of an F4 in the background.
The real aircraft looks to be an early F4. probably an F4B. Either from the mid east or assembled from parts gathered from the aftermath of the Vietnam war. My research on this one is still ongoing and as you can guess, hitting brick walls.

All the best.

Thanks for sorting this, it certainly beats having to upload and then link to....and also makes the sizing a doddle!!

The only issue I have had is that images are upside down, unless I rotate them on screen using Windows Photo Viewer, save them upside down, then turn them back the right way and save them again....
I suspect the problem is my end; either a mixture of my phone and/or Dropbox which I use to transfer pictures onto my desktop PC. Even so, it's still better!!

Posting from my iPhone is not possible for some reason. I could post pics of all the pints I'm having at the moment watching Wales sending us out of the RWC
