I have not used my photobucket account in a very long time. This morning I had an email (which I deleted without opening) stating my account has been restricted due to "excessive 3rd party useage". Should I be worried? All of my pictures are stored on jump drives and such anyway.

Was this an attack on my email account?

It could be spam or genuine and implies that a site such as ours where your pictures have been posted has been making excessive requests to photobucket for you images and you have exceeded your bandwidth usages. It could be that the site in question ( I doubt it is this one) has itself suffered an DoS attack where excessive requests to that site are made.

James seems to have covered it but I would ask PB themselves through the website, especially as you have done the safe thing and deleted the email, better safe than sorry as they say!!.

I've had the same from PB, but the sending email address was masked under a Photobucket address, and ended .ru.

This might be a scam by photobucket themselves, to try and get you to pay for the up-graded service.
A lot of modellers on Britmodeller arre being hit by this. Their photos become graphics.
I've not been hit yet but a few years back [maybe 5 years ago] they did hit me

Here's a link to one discussion on Britmodeller, there are several others

6.22.
Spoke too soon.
Got hit this morning.
All photos are now graphics

I have 1700 photos on Photobucket.
I had to change just over 1 1/2 years ago cos the photo hosting site closed
Now I need to do it again.

I'll be doing that now. Not that many fortunately. Been so long since I have used PB I sent email to change password. LOL. Oh. I got bold and opened the email. It was telling me to pay for play.

I see my photos that are hosted via PB have gone as well. This is very disappointing if this is an attempt to persuade/coerce us to pay for the service and they can go and get stuffed if they think they are getting any cash out of yours truly using such tactics! I never had any problems with PB but the last time I tried to use the site to post pics on here it took about 3 hours to put up two photos, although the advertising on PB was working well enough  I now use the forum post image doofer.

Well said, Shaun. While I understand that they are operating a business, this is unacceptable.

I seem to be ok at the moment, despite having used it since I started on the forum oh back in 2006/7! I still only using 1% of my space as all the images are resized (using 640x480) before uploading - nearly 3000!

I sized mine 800x600 and maybe have 250 uploaded. Seems I have exceeded bandwidth. Since available been using PhotoImage. Easy and hopefully reliable.

Never use them myself, but I get the impression quite a few people here do. If you're one of those, this article may be of some concern to you: http: //www.theregister.co.uk/2017/06/30/photob ... party_pgs/

Please don't shoot the messenger...

Oops, my bad. I tried searching for Photobucket using the forum search engine, but the phrase was rejected as too common..

Can't close or remove this thread myself, but please consider it gone..
