How do you get these little critters to work properly? I find that the grin works automatically when I use the colon bracket method but I can't work out how to make any of the others work. I am thick at this sort of modern computery malarky though!

I assume you found the secret, that the "Quick Reply" doesn't give you the little menu of them, but the "Full Editor" does ...
