I don't know.
I cleared all last night, twice, then Flak did his thing, then I came back to mixed results.
I went direct to Workshops & clicked the "View Last Post Read" icon and about half were correct. The "Stash" also was not.
I then went to the top & did a "View Unread" and all were correct.
I'm going to clear all out of here tonight & try again tomorrow with just the "View Unread" to see what happens.

Even the developers don't really understand why this feature doesn't always work as it should and what causes it in the first place. The suspicion is that sessions aren't being terminated correctly; i.e., the forum doesn't really catch on to the fact that you left and came back especially if you have "log me in automatically" checked.
You could try clearing all board cookies and logging out but that is more a temporary work around than a permanent fix. The next update of the board software is rumoured to be a big one and it may, or equally may not, be fixed. Sorry but I'm not involved with the development of phpBB and I really can't be any more specific than that.

That's cool, Flak...at least we know that the problem is not 'us' and there is a bit of a work-around with the 'mark all read' button - roll on the next update and we'll see what happens...closed issue from my POV now and many thanks to Bruce for raising it and the admins and behind the scenes folk for working on it...
Please critique my posts honestly i.e. say what you think so I can learn and improve...

Re: View New Posts oddly unreliable
Just FYI, I came back today and "View Unread" worked correctly, however only 2 of my 5 test threads were involved.
I am one of the "auto-login" types and I never really thought about a 2nd order impact from that.

Today I find it working on some threads it didn't use to work properly for, and still not working for some others. I'll accept any improvements! I echo the comments above, I'm happy we now know it's an issue and not just me going mad.

In all fairness these could be two separate topics...BWP wrote:we now know it's an issue and not just me going mad.

Seems there are a couple issues with phpbb these days. What version do you have here?
