Removing chrome plating from plastic.

Post by ian lanc »

Hi Guys,

I've got an old Airfix Honda Road Racer kit and the chroming is very very poor
and i've heard in the pipe-line that you can remove the chroming off plastic parts
using house hold chemicals, i've got to be careful in removing this chrome and any
tips in what stuff removes chrome *safely* is welcomed.

Cheers.
Ian.

any household bleach you have.......just submerge the part.......sometimes it takes a few minutes, rarely it takes an hour..............just give it a good wash in water afterwards

Just tried 'Mr Muscle Kitchen cleaner' and it stripped it off within five minutes. Great stuff.

All these years I've been scraping chrome off and there was an easy way !! What a numpty I've been !

My video here showing it stripping a tamiya part in household thick bleach, easy, quick, safer than the nasty stuff in mr muscle oven cleaner.

now Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner is what you want to get paint off, stick it in a bag, spray and pray, seal it and come back 12 hours later.............just make sure you wear gloves and have plenty of ventilation.............stripped the paint off many a body shell like that :-D
