Removing modelfiller from glass canopy

Post by Cherrytree270 »

Hi guys, I had to fill some gaps around the base of the bathtub on the bottom on a heinkel but I have ended up getting pollyfilla on the thing!
Any idea how to get it off, it's totally tried?

A sharp cocktail stick might work; start at the edge(s) and work inwards from there. Don't use too much pressure in case you scratch the clear parts. If they do get scratched, they can be polished out with various methods from toothpaste to proprietary polishing sticks and cloths....but better not to scratch in the first place!

BTW Did you mean 'polyfilla' or is it actually a model filler? In which case which one?
Best wishes

I second that emotion. Wooden cocktail sticks, if used carefully, are useful tools for removing unwanted stuff from your see through bits, including paint. The wood is usually soft enough to prevent deep scratches, just don't go all hammer and tongs!

Most model fillers can usually be softened, and even wiped off, with acetone (or nail polish remover).

A good way to protect your "glass" is to first dip in Future (someone will have to tell you what it's called "over there" as it has changed), it not only makes it clear & bright but adds a protective coat, especially from CA glue. It's a good habit to get into.
