Hypodermic needles

Post by Old_Tonto »

I've read lots of articles where model builders use hypodermic needles to replace gun barrels etc.
Other than signing up to an addicts program at my local Doctors, where can I buy these and is there a particular brand I should get?

or online

I use brass tubing
I can't buy hypo needles here but I've bought tattooists needles via ebay. I gave up on them as they are stainless steel and almost impossible to cut
The brass tubing is far better value for money
Tamiya do packets of brass tubing at reasonable prices
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Thanks guys, brass tubing is probably a better option than robbing junkies. :lol:

I was in error in above message.
Its Trumpeter who do packs of brass tube.
They have 6 packs in the range afair, each pack has 2x a size with four sizes = 8 lengths of tubing, each about 20cm long
The packs go up in stages with 0.3mm the smallest, 3mm the largest
Each pack costs between £3.50 and £4.50 approx

example;
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trumpeter-To ... SwWmNasTsj;

Personally, I find the packs excellent value for money.
eg. A single tube, 1mm diameter - 25cm long from K&S costs, minimum, £1.10

PS; sets even cheaper here; https://hobby.uk.com/materials/metal/br ... -sets.html;
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..

Hypodermic tubing is available on eBay too. The finer stuff can be cut by rolling repeatedly under a #11 blade, until the section snaps off cleanly. For larger diameters I use a cutting disc mounted in a Dremel.
