Yellowed decals

Post by kruaxi »

Often, old decals show a yellow film: it's a problem for a vintage lover as me.
I read on the web that exposing them to the Sun for two or three days... problem can be fix, most of the time.
Well... bad weather, night... too problems... How to resolve ?
I think about... probably UV rays are the solution.
So, i just bought a little machine with UV lamps, used for nails art...

I know... seems an AREA 51 hangar... or a satanic dog's bed...

Yesterday in the evening i took this old decal, then i leave it inside that UV oven for a day...
This is the result:

AFTER

Well, i believe it's really different !
Now, i leave it again, for a day or two, to see if remaining yellow can disappear entirely.

I don't know if any have had this idea before... i never read about...

That's great. Now I'm going to take all my yellowed decals to get a manicure. :ha:

I've had the idea, but never found the machine!
Nice one, Sir.

You will have noticed that your decals have also dried out, hence the curling.
This is why we stick them in a plastic bag, to dry and reduce the dehydration and liquid decal film, to protect against any cracking.

Of course, before use them, is better to apply a coat of Microscale.
Thanks

That's a great idea, I wonder how much electricity those UV lights use though. Electricity prices are going through the roof
and I'm already having to go around turning unnecessary things off to keep the bills down!
