Re: Gluing transparent bits
I found the safety sheet as a link on this website:
http://www.gshypocement.com/;
It doesn't have all ingredients listed, but there is xylene and heptane in it. Xylene is a powerful organic solvent, also used in many fillers, and is nasty stuff. Toxic, carcinogenic. I'd recommend only using it in very well ventilated areas.
Heptane is a chain of 7 carbon atoms with hydrogen atoms stuck to them. Another good solvent, probably not as poisonous as xylene, but very flammable. (you've heard of Octane, the 8 carbon one, it's the additive in petrol/gasoline which makes the combustion process run hotter)...
And benzene has now been restricted to lab work in a fume cupboard by the way. It's a carcinogen too. We used to have it on the chemistry bench in school...
I think I'll pass on this product. PVA based glues do the trick for me

Marmalade would be a tastier option, although not so good for transparencies.

I like the lime marmalade myself. And you don't want your models to attract wasps!MerlinJones wrote:Unless they were orange-tinted ones.AndrewR wrote:Marmalade would be a tastier option, although not so good for transparencies.

Re: Gluing transparent bits
that stuff looks brilliant! ive been using PVA squeezed into a needle polystyrene cement but the only problem with PVA is forgetting the drying time is alot more than normal cement
Re: Gluing transparent bits
What about dipping clear parts in Future or Klear, then masking for painting? Will the masking tape remove the Future or Klear. I don't want to dip, then mask and find the tape has been removed from the part.

Re: Gluing transparent bits
No, it is quite safe to dip, dry, then mask and paint .... Remember Future/Klear is really floor wax, modeling tpe doesn't stand a chance ...Megadrive wrote:What about dipping clear parts in Future or Klear, then masking for painting? It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Re: Gluing transparent bits
I've only seen Hypo glue being used by US or Aussie modellers. I've not seen it on sale here in the UK.
My canopy glue of choice is Pacer 500 - which is a white PVA glue - but stronger than most glues of that type..
