Matallic Paint question

Post by Old_Tonto »

I plan to build a few silver or NMF aircraft but am not sure what paints to use. My paints of choice are Xtracrylix but their silver is not very good, being too dull.

I want to use a few differing shades & preferably acrylic paints as I have an aversion to Alcad (lacquers).
So I was just wondering what brand you guys would recommend.

I find the Humbrol acrylic metallics to be pretty good, although I've yet to try airbrushing them.
Best wishes

For many of my MNF I use a rattle can of silver meant for cars. I have a couple of different shades. Mask everything, spray overall with one shade, mask different parts, spray with a different shade.
For some models I use Humbrol 11, brush painted. With matt varnish on its better for aluminium than their 56 aluminium colour.
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

I use Vallejo model air aluminium and I'm pleased with the results.

If you are brush painting the easiest to get hold of are the Citadel paints from Games Workshop. They did change the range a couple of years so I don't know what the shades are like.

Well Vallejo Model Air Aluminium is nice, not exactly shiny NMF though, don't know if you can buff it.

There is also a Vallejo Artist line http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/en_US/l ... /family/11; I've used the white-gold tone on my wooden Torny (http://malepo.blogspot.de/search/label/Tornado;). On that I used this tone with the airy and the hairy stick. It brushed not that bad - well I'm not that good brush painter. But you have to seal it in the end.

I like the Vallejo Air metallics. They spray and brush very nicely.

If it's not too late, I'd add that I get very good shiny results with a rattlecan of Humbrol Chrome Silver - just have to make sure you give it a good long time to cure before handling it because even when it's touch dry it takes fingerprints very well until properly cured.

I have had good luck with Floquil Old Silver. It is laquor based. Durable.
