Weathering 1/35 Armour advice needed

Post by Old_Tonto »

I recently finished a Sheridan (TANK ) for the armour group build and although I am quite pleased with the result it looks too new & factory fresh.
Not having done any large scale armour before I was wondering if anyone has any advice on weathering my Sheridan to make it looked used & lived in.

Keep it simple please. I am easily confused.

Do the same as 1/76 but use a bigger brush

Have you got a photo of her OT so we can make our advice more constructive for you?

When/where is it in service ? Vietnam, US, Europe, IRAQ ? Is it in a diorama ?
Go very light on "wear" and rust, if any. I'd lean toward simple "dust" of an appropriate color.
Avoid the current WW2 Axis modeler fad of making it look like a junk yard denizen.

Google M551 Sheridan and look at some Images ....

Great advice John. I should have been more specific.
I want to display the model as it would have looked in Quảng Nam Province, in the South Central Coast of Vietnam, 1971.
Perhaps on a simple stand representing a muddy track with a little greenery along the verge & a few figures.

Mud or dust, make it reddish brown .... Look at the MiG P031 Vietnam Earth Pigment color http://migproductionswebshop.com/produc ... ucts_id=83; for an example.
