After SMW12 there was quite a bit of interest about these. I also found the rotor files I had started work on and have finished them off. The blur amount is 12 degs which looked more appropriate for helos. I've added yellow tips, if you don't want them or need them a bit shorter simple print out a little bigger and cut them out at the required size. Enjoy.

Please note these images are available to others for not-for-profit use.

ie You cannot print them and sell them. I reserve the right to do so.

There was some experimentation with doing blurred rotors for last years CBK SIG Box Art display. In 1/72 scale they were a bit too much as a disk http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=409; but worked well using the just the "blur". The effect in 1/144 may differ.

Well I never! I have just ventured into this part of the forum following advice from another member (but to seek advice on an entirely different subject). I have spent many 'happy' hours working out how to create 'prop blur' and the evening before yesterday I was finally happy with the result. Today I find that you, James, have already addressed the problem!

If I can work out how to, I will post a picture of my prototype.

I couldn't get things to work correctly on the iPad so I've fired up the laptop. So, here is my prototype 'prop blur':

Points to note on the updated version
1. The 'hard edges' of the 4 'propellers' have been blurred and now look much better.
2. The disc will be replaced with one that is much less opaque.

I cannot post a view of the modified version firstly because I am not at home, secondly because I didn't photograph the new printout and finally because I've not yet cut out the new disc. But I am pretty happy with end result. Unfortunately it will be a couple of weeks (probably) before I can upload the end result.

Hi, Looks great. More the merrier! There are also some instruction on how to airbrush a blurred prop elsewhere on the forum I think.

James, I hope you don't mind as I present my final version of 'Prop blur', happy to share my results with others. As promised, the edges have been blurred and other effects seen in period photographs 'interpreted'.

I think I have spent as many hours working on this as I did on building the model on which it is fitted!

As far as I can see, it looks wonderful on the P-47 prop hub. I wonder how good a flat disk would look on a prop hub with a nosecone, such as a P-40?

Here is one example, the disk is attached here on my F-51D with a thin ring of PVA glue. I bought some metal hole punches of varying sizes from eBay to whack out the holes in the centre of the disks.

Hey TeeELL, your version does look excellent. Beany's post has made me realise that there are no examples on this page so here are a couple of mine:

That is indeed a very sweet P-51 display, Al. Definitely something I'd like to try. The project is formatting in my mind.

Hmm, it seems the links to the images have disappeared they were hosted under flakmonkey's business domain. I'll try and get them reposted in a couple weeks, my PC is currently wrapped in plastic as the house is full of plaster dust.

I've finally been able to fix the broken links to the images. I've removed the older images and linked the post be the ones that work best.
