Can i pre-shade using a brush, i like the effect but i don't like airbrushes lol

Basically, no. It kinda depends on the semi-transparency of the final layers of paint to work.

I'd use artist's chalk (not oil) pastels over the final coat. Get yourself some pastels that are lighter shades of the finish colours (eg pale grey green and light grey for temperate land scheme Dk Green/MSG/OG). Scrub them on a piece of sand paper to get some find dust, and then rub the lighter shades into the middle of panels. Less is more -- you can always add a bit more. If you don't like it, you can just wipe it off with a damp cloth.

You can find artists' pastels in pretty much any shade you need for camouflage.
