Bf109 Splinter questoin

Post by Brickie »

So I'm working on the 1/48 Airfix Bf109E-4 kit for my WW2 exhibit in October, which I'm doing in the scheme of the Broom Hill Messerschmitt. The notes on the paint guide say that the a/c was finished in standard RLM 70/71 splinter scheme (with a low demarcation with the RLM 65), with an irregular battern of RLM 02 oversprayed on the fuselage sides.

What I'm finding challenging is locating a good side-on profile of the 109 showing what the splinter camo looked like on the fuselage sides - almost all the ones I've found are either high-demarcation ones or starboard-side only, or have the camo overspray on.

Any ideas?

I've found an instruction sheet for a 109D-1 which shows both sides and top of the camo scheme.
The pattern is the same; just variation due to alignment of the segments or reversal of the colours, or mirror image of the scheme.
I can scan this and send it to you [?]

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.
