I've just got some of this new masking tape. Look ! No creeping of paint . . . . even after brushing on. We tried it at work.
Ideal for cheat lines and waterlines. I'll do a few test shots on an old model.

Re: FROG Tape
We await the results, especially as whether it will lift paint or not?

Appears on the B&Q website - so I could well stop there on my way home tomorrow.

Re: FROG Tape
Well if there is a physical gap nothing is going to stop the paint from getting underneath. Where this may work is, especially when brush painting, is that the solvents in paint can dissolve the glue on the tape.Brews wrote:Here is one review on a Canadian hardware store website (Canadian Tire):
The tape does do a good job at stopping paint bleed, but it has to be applied to very very smooth surfaces. baseboards with even the smallest paint defect and the frog tape will let paint through. It still cuts back on touch ups and is worth the extra cost

Re: FROG Tape
Reading the website, it appears that the edges of this tape are treated to seal to the surface.
If, as I do, you slice Tamiya tape quite thinly - it's not going to work properly.
24mm and 36mm wide rolls are for decorators not modellers.

Re: FROG Tape
I've now tried some of this tape on a model.
Didn't live up to my expectations - so I won't bother again.
Paint (enamel) did creep under the tape, and I found it more difficult to use than Tamiya tape.

Re: FROG Tape
I found it to creep under the edge where the panel lines were, but it seemed ok cut down to thin strips. The new LoTak version is handy for model work too. I used it to mask some camo.
So many models, so little time.

Re: FROG Tape
Only really works with water based paints as the glue on the tape reacts with the water and forms a gel like barrier
Prior planning & preparation prevents poor performance
