Leather seats (in cars)

Post by Mxyzptlk »

Not sure how useful this would be as it something I only tried the once... many years ago.

I was building the old Monogram 1/24 Type 35 Bugatti (I see someone is trying to get £178 for one on ebay!).

Being in my "if its the right colour plastic I won't paint it" phase of model building (painting has never been my strong point), the only part that had a lick of paint was the seat, for which I used Humbrol Enamel Matt Tan.

To my mind matt paint is not what I would call ideal for leather seats. What I did when the paint was dry was to rub the seat gently with my finger. The natural oils from the skin had the effect of making the seat more shiny other than in the seams and also could have the potential to dirty it up a little. I was pleased with the end result at the time as it certainly looked more like leather. Has anyone else ever tried this?

I don't currently have access to the model unfortunately to photograph it.
