RLM Colours?

Post by MerlinJones »

Whilst I am determined to stay with enamels and to avoid any mixing if paint to get the right shade, it appears that Xtracolour is the only way to go.
Am I correct?

I know that Humbrol have RLM colours due, but there may well not appear until the end of the year and I'm talking about the Here & Now.

Our Modelling FAQ ( http://uamf.org.uk/faq/index.html; ) has the following suggestions for some RLM colours, for straight Humbrol equivalents, as does the IPMS Stockholm site, ( http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorchart ... ermany.htm; ;

RLM01 = H191
RLM04 = H154
RLM22 = H33
RLM65 = H65
RLM66 = H67 or H184, or H92 or H32
RLM70 = H91
RLM71 = H30 or H116 or H163
RLM72 = H125
RLM73 = H149
RLM74 = H32
RLM75 = H140
RLM76 = H175...Discontinued
RLM79 = H62
RLM82 = H105

Obviously, those who know their RLM colours should feel free to educate those of us in need. ;-)

Bruce

This blog http://falkeeinsmodel.blogspot.co.nz/20 ... lours.html is well respected in Luftwaffe circles & Neil is a modeller as well so his recommendations are good real world stuff. Recommended (at least until the new Humbrol shades are out, hopefully superfluous after that. ;-) )

Also remember that it depends on what scale you are in - the "exact" colour may look too dark on a 1/72 aircraft, but okay on a 1/32 model.

It's called the "scale effect". It applies to each colour in the paint scheme.

This website http://www.cybermodeler.com/color/rlm_comp.shtml has a useful run down on scale effect as applied to RLM shades, Its worth keeping in mind that not everyone buys into it but it has its place I believe.

That's true; personally I find 1/72 looks better with some slight lightening. :)
