Airfix 1:24 scale Mosquito

Post by cyprusman »

Does anyone know when painting the Mosquito in the colours of No487 Squadron will you have to mix equal parts of humbrol 163 and humbrol 49 together as the plans don't say.

Thanks if anyone knows.

Hello and welcome.

H163 has a satin finish.
H47 is a matt varnish.

Instructions are misleading, when they say H163 + H47, especially if you are more familiar with Revell instruction sheets.

You should apply the H163 first, let it dry and then finish with H47, to give the model an overall matt finish.

HOWEVER...decals are best applied to a glossy surface, as this reduces 'silvering'. I would strongly suggest giving the model a coat of a gloss varnish, (Humbrol Glosscote, for example), or an acrylic gloss floor polish, such as Klear.

When the decals are done, then you can apply your matt coat.

Best Regards,
Bruce
