Anorexic paint

Post by triviatus »

While painting the Airfix ME 109 (1/72) I found the nose colour (H 154 insignia yellow) seemed to be extra thin (even after copious shaking and stirring) Is it a bad batch or have others found the same problem? It eventually took five coats to get a satisfactory result.
What time is it Eccles??

Yellow is generally a terrible colour to paint. I have a rattle can that is only used for prop tips and wing leading edges...

Try Revell 310 Lufthansa Yellow, it has far more pigment than Humbrol and is available in both enamel and acrylic.

I'd also recommend Vallejo sand coloured primer as a base; it really helps getting a nice yellow.

My 154 is fine. You must have one from a bad batch.
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....

Thanks for all the info. I did find that the trainer yellow (H24) on another model had better coverage so perhaps it is a duff batch.

I'm also doing the 1/72 Airfix 109E in Rumanian markings and the yellow is real pig to get to get right. I'm using the Xtracrylix RLM 04 and I still can't make a decent job of it although it's getting better with every new attempt! I think certain amount of weathering will be needed to cover up the end result though:roll:

Use Humbrol 24 as a base base aand then give the "right" yellow!
