Cheap photography base/background

Post by Ian »

Bear with me on this one, it is going somewhere......

A couple of weeks ago it was World Book Day. The littlest little Ian was asked to go into school dressed as his favourite book character. Being the individual that he is, he informed us that he would like to go dressed as his favourite book.
So I got the job of creating a book for him to wear.
An old cardboard box had to be made smaller and have arm and head holes cut out and then needed the cover of the book painting on the cardboard.
This was the original

And this was my copy

OK, so the writing is a bit out but on the whole I was pretty happy. Littlest little Ian was over the moon!

So, here I am today with a Halifax to photograph for the 4 or more GB and I have nothing to display the model on. Thinking back to the book painting I did, I had an idea.
I got out the little Ians poster paints

And created a masterpiece on an old cardboard box

It may not look like much but when you get down to eye level (and squint) it almost looks like a field with some trees and hedges in the background

Ignore the reflections of the 'trees' as these won't exist once the paint dries. And I am sure that once there is a model on there to take the eye away from the painting it will look alright.

Check my 4 or more GB thread later as I'll be standing the Halifax on this once it's dry.

One quick, easy display base. :-D
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....

Great idea! Love the book costume idea!

You might consider a section of model railway grass mat on the base for it's texture.

Top job on both projects Ian, if you don't mind I'm going to pinch your idea for my photo sessions. ;-)
