Doing the groundwork

Post by Ratch »

I had an old Bellona vac-form base that had become damaged, and a hardboard off-cut. The vac-formed gun emplacement had lost the roof to the store room, so a new one would need scratchbuilding. I cut out the constituent parts, re-arranged them and stuck them down with PVA.

I tore up newspaper strips and mixed it up with plaster of paris and water, then put it on appropriate areas of the base.

I constructed an observation platform on the roof of the store room.

It is removable.

I used poster paints as an undercoat for the groundwork.

Repainted the mortar

the brickwork and paving

I had some grass mat from a model railway source and broke up the joins with static grass

Lychen was added as scrub

I then added some pallets, oil drums and sacks c/o Ratio (model railway accessories)

The Bofors guns and figures are Airfix (apart from one or two)

All models are equal. Some models are more equal than others.
