Tiny WWII aircraft

Post by Chuck E »

Loads of little kits from Zvesda and Sweet. Hurricanes and Battles and a few more thrown in.

This is an ongoing rush to finish all the small kits in my stash.

Sweet always give you loads of decals for their kits and the little Zvesda kits get them all used up.

I'm hoping that Zvesda bring out a little Spitfire I, Lysander and Gladiator. I did find a Ju-87B and a Henschel plus some Russian aircraft, but I like the Battle of France types. These are wargame aircraft, but they look nice painted up.

What scale are they? They look very smart indeed and if less than 1/72 then they are even more impressive!
Best wishes

They are all 1/144th kits. I had a couple of the Revell kits, which are really old and almost impossible to build these days, despite being in nice new boxes.

Sweet have 3 Hurricane sets. Battle of Britain Aces, Early ( Fabric wing ) Hurricanes and Desert Hurricanes with a small air filter. These sets include 2 very nice Hurricane models and a Cartograph Decal sheet with up to 8 choices. I bought a few of these.

Next, I got a free Zvesda Kit with SAM and used this to use an extra set of decals. Since then I have picked up about a dozen of these kits and have almost used up all the Sweet decals. As the Hurricanes are part of a War game set for the Battle for France 1940, they were joined by a Fairey Battle, a Ju-87B and a small Henschel. A Blenheim and Ju-52 are produced in this set, but they are 1/200th. Mixed scales for all models, in fact. Figures 1/72, Aircraft 1/144th and 1/200th, and vehicles are to 1/100th. Bit of a shame there, as the vehicles would go well with the figure sets. I must add at this point that the figure sets are well worth looking out as they are superb. The best I've made in this scale. Look out for the Aircraft Figure sets, too, as these are to 1/72nd and will look nice woth your model aircraft.

IMO there is at least one exemption to that. Revell´s 144 Mustang looks quite nice for it´s age.
I built it almost OOB, except for the air intakes and the hot air exit, which I opened up.
Of course it can´t keep up with Sweet´s P-51, but it only costs a small sum, and the decals are good, anyway.
Revell gives you decals for one of Yeager´s Glamourus (have I misspelled?) Glen´s.

There was still masking on the canopy, and no main undercarriage, yet, when I took the snaps.

Interesting... I can see great airfield/dogfight diorama possibilities (also in background of photos of larger scale models to give real depth of field: imagine 1/48, 1/72, 1/144 in the same shot).

Also great, as Chuck has done, for building up sets of colour scheme variants, as per the many ref books (I liked his Finnish Hurricane: http://www.clavework-graphics.co.uk/pro ... e_002.html).

For the Zveda range (all WWII just £2.69) and some interesting WW1 types from Valom (£8.99 for two in a box, eg https://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/val ... 58521.html)

See Model Hobbies:https://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/pla ... ml?page=41

MH have 523, mainly 1/144 kits (inc some really tiny ones for model aircraft carriers), so plenty of scope for all periods/scenarios.

The Zveda kits are nice, if simplified- the cockpit on the hurricane is sold and attaches to a peg in the fuselage- I painted the latter as a pilot's head and it looked good on the finished model.
currently on the go: Revell Blenheim I, Italeri Me210, Revell HMS victory, Revell 1/144 p-47

I bought a couple of brand new 1/144th kits last week. P-40E and B/C. Both are from AFV CLUB. Very nice, but £9.00 each for single kits was a bit much. Photos later.

The Clavework page is very nice, Neil.

Here are some more tiny kits.

I´m about to get an Arii ex-Crown 144 P-40N Warhawk, I only found one review of it, and in that one, it looks far better than Revells Microwings P-40, which needs a lot of work, to just look ok!

Armory have just released two sets of Bf-109E models, covering 1939 and 1940. I have just ordered a set. Two kits per pack and 12 versions. I will have to get more of these. I was hoping Zvesda would be releasing some of these, plus a Spitfire Ia, for their range.
So many models, so little time.
