Hawk 115 re attack
Hawk 115 re attack
Hello!
http://s1079.photobucket.com/albums/w50 ... G_0255.jpg;
This half built Hawk 115 has been sat in a cupboard in my house for 6 years or so, it was a bit of half hearted attempt several years ago. It was hand painted and the finish is pretty terrible so I would like so advice on any methods of stripping her down and building her up!
I would like take away the blue coat if possible so I can spray her and re-move the ejector seats to add details, the front cockpit one fell out but I have it still.
Any ideas or advice gratefully received!!

Easy peasy...
Place in poly bg.
Cover liberally in Mr. Muscle Oven Cleaner.
Seal bag.
Leave overnight.
Place plug in sink and rinse...or rinse over a sieve. Some glues fall apart when cleaned this way and you don't want to lose any bits!
You might need to use an old toothbrush to remove some stubborn bits, but unlikely.

Bruce

Wow, that sounds very simple. I'd have thought it would attack the plastic!
I'll give it a go and see how it comes up!

Watch out for clear parts doing this though as I have had a couple of canopies fog up.

I have a bucket load of Airfix Space 1999 Eagles. Will it work for kits as old and knackered as that, bearing in mind that they were built and painted 30 years ago?

Re: Hawk 115 re attack
I thought I would come back and share the results! This is after 2 nights in a poly bag with lots of Mr Muscle. The 2nd night was to reapply to a few stubborn areas.
You can see how well it has worked, just need to get a toothbrush to the hard to reach areas and it should be ready to start work on.
Thanks very much for the tip!

Does any one know why the pics above won't show?

Which link are you using? I use the IMG Code link, when I post.
I took the liberty of checking your Photobucket pictures and got the IMG link so, if I have this right, you picture should be here...
Looking good, by the way.

What method are you using to get the link? All you need to do is click on the link and it should be copied. Then all you need to do is past the link into your post.

Re: Hawk 115 re attack
If I've got the hang of this photo inserting, there should be a picture of a 1:48 Martin Baker Mk10 seat from my Hawk!
I've taken as much out of I can from how I originally started building the model. I've used the decals from the AIM-9s that I don't intend to use for the little red markings, and I've tried to get it as close to the photos of the Mk10 I've found online.
The straps are folded over masking tape painted a darker green than the seat back, can't remember where I saw that tip but thanks to who ever it was!
So, here are my questions! Do most people varnish cockpits? if so what kind of finish and is there a consensus on the best varnishes or techniques?
Also.. the real Mk10 has a black and yellow handle between the legs. Can anyone suggest a good material to fashion something out of to add one to this seat?

Almost.
On your Photbucket page, on the right side of the image, you'll see a little menu titled Links. There are 4 entries and the bottom one is labeled IMG Code. Left click inside that box and you'll see the word "Copied". Come back here to your post and do a Ctrl-V (paste) and the correct code will be here.
Here is the correct code from doing that:
which gives this image:
Try it and see if you get the same IMG code I did and the same image.
Then we'll work on sizing & things ...
