My builds tend to stall at earlier stages, once I'm onto the decalling I like to get 'em finished.

You almost have as many unfinished kits going as I do. Of course yours are a lot farther along and nicer. You're a brave man hand painting your own 1/72 checker pattern. Did you eyeball it or use some kind of masks?

Nice. The plane that caught the eye was "Old Crow" Actually had some decals out today and those were some of them. Now I recognize the plane even more. Thanks for the build.

Just painted the yellow on and then eyeballed the first row of red. Once dry, I added the second row. It was actually very easy to do. It's not perfect, but I quite like the effect.

The paint is very reasonably priced MP Acrylic. Here is a list. I love these paints, but wish they had some nearer to my aircraft requirements.

I was shown how to paint chequers when doing GW Marines. You paint the lightest colour all over then, using a thin brush paint on a grid in either black (for outline), or the top colour and then fill in the grid. Sounds difficult but as long as you get the grid right and take your time painting it, the idea works really well.
