Hasegawa 1/32 Me-109E-4/7
I inherited this partly built model around 10 years ago from a fellow IPMS member who passed away.
The interior had been constructed, painted and masked off,and the exterior had been primed. It came to me missing complete undercarriage and doors, and a few odd bits such as the aileron mass balances and antenna mast.
A couple of years ago I rescribed the major panel lines, and started looking for spare parts. I eventually was donated some Matchbox main gear and doors; The tailwheel came from the spares box and looks a bit undersize. The other missing bits, plus a gunsight, were scratchbuilt. Not sure where I found the belly tank - but that tallied with original decals I had for an E-4/7 of 8/JG 27 (as documented in the Histoire & Collections book).
Over the last Xmas break, I got serious. Progress photos are in my workbench thread:
http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=471&start=285
So, from this:
to this:
Painted with Xtracolour enamels.
Decals are original Hasegawa, which got the very hot water treatment after all these years, and performed quite reasonably.
You can just make out the gunsight, which turned out to be mounted too far to the right when the canopy finally went on.
There is now sufficient detail in the big cockpit to not look empty, but 1970s-style, so I did not attempt to show it off.
I should have added a photo including a more typical 1/72 model, but I have put away all the gear now.
This is the first 1/32 model I have completed in around 25 years! I think the last was the Matchbox Spitfire 24.
I have a few others in the stash to keep it company.
Hope you like it!
David

Nice work. A fitting tribute to its previous owner.

An excellent model with a truly first class finish. It is really satisfying when you get around to finally completing a model that has been on the shelf for a long time….. you have done a great job there.

That's really nice. I have the Airfix 1:48 version of this aircraft. Hope it turns out as nice as your monster has!

Excellent David, that looks really good and is one of my favourite schemes for the '109E.

Nice! I'd love a 1/32 '109E to go with my Spitfire II!
