Contrail Fairey Gordon
Contrail Fairey Gordon
Next form the DNF shelf is the Contrail 1/72nd Fairey Gordon vacform. It was in a nearly finished condition bar decals and serials that I was researching when I discovered the black on the top fuselage should be very dark green and the larger pieces of fuse-wire I'd used for the rigging had bent and warped. Luckily I discovered EZ line after that
As it has been sitting on a shelf for years it's built up a layer of dust. Most came off with a small piece o cloth but I had to use a micro-stick to get the dust out of crevices and near the sorter pieces of inter-strut rigging that I'm leaving in place. The rest of the fuse-wire has been stripped out and once the paint has dried I'll begin the re-rigging process.
Also from what I can make out fro B&W photos the props are of a light colour and satin in finish. I've seen a real prop from that era in a light grey-brown colour, so that's what I'm using and in B&W it's a close match.

Re: Contrail Fairey Gordon
As Contrail vacforms go it's not a bad one at all and quite a pleasant build. But if I build one again (and I have another in the stash) I'd make sure I thinned down the flying surface trailing edges far more than I did with this one, as they are still a tad too thick for my liking.jRatz wrote:Looks good. Re: Contrail Fairey Gordon
My Flash Gordon is now rigged. I had trouble though as my fine nose tweezers seem to have become twisted and wouldn't grip the EZ line very well, resulting in many frustrating ping-backs when under tension. But I got it done in the end:

Well I'm going to call it a finish, although after taking the photos I've noticed I still need to scratch a couple of horn balances for the underside of the wings, but it's near enough now:

Soplendid job on a fairly crude kit.

Great model. Its always impressive to see a good model emerge from a vac-form.
