Revell P47 Thunderbolt in 1/72
Revell P47 Thunderbolt in 1/72
Ths one was kindly donated to me a few weeks ago. It was missing its undercariage, props and decals, but was otherwise complete and unbuilt. I scratch built the undercarriage, i.e. legs and doors, and found spare wheels and props that seemed to be suitable. The decals were provided by another modeller.
The decals. however, were odd, in that I was unable to find any instructions that linked the numbers on the decal sheet to numbers on an instruction sheet. There mut be a simple explanation to this, but I don't know what it is. It's as if there are two versions of the same decals. I did what I could, but I am left with numerous stencils whose locations I just do not know. I have noticed that quite a few people who have built this model have not painted the wing tips red, so perhaps there are two versions. The area aft of the canopy should also be in anti-dazzle green according to the instructions I saw, which again, is not done on many models.
Overall, however, it's a rather nice kit that was an enjoyable build.

Saw a wartime photo of this plane showing the anti-dazzle applied aft of the canopy.

Looks good. Makes up nicely. The display base is tops also.

Nice build Vacant, your NMF looks terrific and I love the splash's of red that they were painted, really grabs the eye. I love the Jug, she's a tuff bird.

Very nice build, Vacant. Good NMF, and nice bright red trim with sharp demarcation.

I've just built that one, and I had the same problem with the decal numbering. So I left off most of the little stencils!

Good to know that the decal numbering problem is not confined to me - but it probably means that there is a solution to it. What it needs is for someone whose numbers are correct, to take a scan of it (obviously before cutting them up) so that others can match the numbers to tiehr incorrectly numbered sheet.

Great piece of work, and a stand out colour scheme.

Nice job on this. When I first saw it I thought "he's going soft & making up regular kits" I should've known there must have been a more than usual amount of fixing required. Its come up quite superbly.
