Skybirds 86 1/72nd Percival Prentice T Mk 1

Next part finished project to go back on the bench is the Percival Provost. Looks like I just got the metal interior done and that has got very dusty. I had a go at cleaning it up but not going to clean too much a sit seems to give a pleasing 'used look' patina to the cockpit. I also seem to have mislaid the instructions (although it's mostly self-explanatory), but they may be lurking in my instructions box, if not I have another once somewhere which I can raid for instructions if I get stuck.

I have one of these bought at Telford for £3 only decals missing. Following with great interest.

That's a fantastic bargain. it's a great little kit, I love the all metal cockpit, very detailed. The only downside is the large vacform canopy of which there was only one in my box leaving no room for error...

Wings tails and nose all together. The Prentice is a surprisingly large aeroplane.

Nice!

It is quite large - there was one at Camarillo Airport for the longest time; it has now moved, but I did get this photo some years ago:

An out of character colour scheme for the Prentice on that one. I wonder if it was used for filming?

Nah, just your typical American 'warbird' pseudo-scheme...

Shame as they look far better in their RAF Trainer silver.

Who knows what the new owners will do - the hope is that it will fly regularly again, though.

Canopy now attached - I hope!

This was tricky as not only is it rather a thin vacform canopy and only one copy, so no mistakes allowed, it also fits in an odd way. Instead of just fitting on top of the cockpit opening the canopy is cut with overlapping outer flanges that sit in slightly recessed areas around the cockpit sides. Not sure if that's a good idea or not yet. It was tricky to get a close fit and we'll see if the canopy glue attaches it firmly enough. Additionally the canopy was very yellowed, but two dips in Klear seem to have dealt with that. The irony is that I will have to re-apply orange-yellow to part of the canopy as it should have a tinted area...
