Roden Gladiator.

Post by Chuck E »

Another shelf queen gets a look in. The Roden Gladiator.
I decided to prime it, not realising at this point that there was still a bracing cable or two to add.

A couple of coats of acrylic camo.

Rigging sorted.

The decals were not good and disintegrated.

Broken decals.

Replacement decals plus a bit of white paint does the trick.

The engine assembly is a fiddle, bit it looks OK once it's all together. The decals for the tyres were dreadful. The printing is neat, but they break up. I ended up putting the letters on a couple at a time and sealing with Klear.

So many models, so little time.

Roden kits have a tendency to be over-engineered. I did this one a few years ago and found it very fiddly. The parts were covered in mould release grease, I think it was yak butter.....Decals were crap, as you found out.....

I managed to use the serials and bits, but the rest were useless. Even the colours were wrong, so I didn't bother using varnish to seal them.

Inspite of your troubles with the decals, that's still a very nice Gladiator. My Lancaster and a couple of other Revell kits (admittedly aged) had decals that disintegrated too, so I share your frustration.
