Re: New Airfix Tiffie, anyone?
wow - looks good, can't wait to build mine, your doing a great job of it. If you have any pointers let me know.
Here's a thought however. I was under the assumption that the only Tiffies with four blade props and the bigger Tempest tailplanes were the 'Bombphoons' so they could carry 1000lb'ers. I thought that the rocket firing Tiffies only ever had the 3 blade props.
Am I wrong? (I'm assuming I am), or have Airfix omitted a few things here...
I did get this to go with my kit, I'll be looking forward to seeing what it says ( I hate waiting for birthdays)

The squadron role was decided by the brass and any Typhoon could be changed over from bombs or rockets if needed, so Airfix have got this right.

David and Airfix are right, here. I believe that the larger Tempest tailplane was introduced to counteract the adverse handling effects caused by the 4-bladed props. However, there was a shortage of 4-blader props, so some larger tailplane aircraft were also fitted with the 3-blader.
The prop and tailplane choice had nothing to do with the weapons fit on the Tiffy, indeed the same squadron frequently used a mix of 3 and 4-blade prop aircraft.
As a recognition feature, all that can be said is that, if you have a photo of a Tiffy with a 4-blade prop, it will have the larger tailplane fitted. So the Airfix Tiffy, having only a 4-blade prop, also has to have the larger tailplane, and both armament options could be correct.

Martin

I can't wait for the new Typhoon to hit the LHS. Being a new release I'm not sure when that will be. The new Zero just landed here so it could be a while

Interesting with the undercarriage bay, I suppose it is being used like a spar, nice work Martin.

Looks to be a well engineered kit.
I may just have to pop out and get one......

Re: New Airfix Tiffie, anyone?
Hi, got this one too!, building it this week but did the sub assembly trick. Worked okay but then I kept forgetting bits. Forgot to put the wheel-bay/intake in BEFORE closing the fuselage, forgot to put the gun packs in BEFORE putting the top of the wings on.....
Thirty odd years of model making (or assembly) and I can still make schoolboy errors, or maybe this one was nursery!!!.
Have ordered another, hopefully do it right this time, can I join in?, or at least build alongside on my own??.
(unless I've missed it, if so I'll crack on with it when it arrives... alone )

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Re: New Airfix Tiffie, anyone?
Further to my earlier error prone build, I have recovered the situation somewhat and now the Typhoon needs recovering (again). This time is more appropriate.
The pilot has brought her back with some damage and was unable to lower the undercarriage, hence the belly landing.
(P.S. have my new Airfix Typhoon so will attempt a 'proper' build this time!!. )
