Airfix DeHavilland Vampire 1/72

Post by RudiB »

I'd been looking for this kit for a long time after seeing one fly at a local airshow, the guy in the shop said they always sold out quickly. Admittedly this is badged as a starter kit. A few days of spare time and it was done, nice quick build after I had spent a long time on the Vulcan Bomber.
There was a problem with the canopy not closing on the model as the pilots were too high in the cockpit for some reason, anyway I left the canopy open and I quite like it that way, it's also one of those models that needs a lot of nose weight but hardly anywhere to put it.

And here it is next to the Vulcan, both are 1/72

Good looking model. I like the Vulcan too.....don't often see them in the Anti-flash White.

Nice Vampire. I built mine in the same scheme. It's a lovely kit.

Thanks Barry, I am in the process of building all the V-bombers in Anti-flash, I really like them in that scheme, plus I'm also worried about making a mess of the camo paint scheme.

Nice pair - I´d like to do the V-bombers too, an impressive but space consuming collection! A new tool Victor would get me started though!

Very nicely done Rudi. I'm also a fan of V-Bombers in the anti-flash scheme but these aircraft in 1/72 scale are too large for my available display space. 1/144 would be my choice of scale for a Vulcan, Valiant or Victor.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Very pretty. Is it the new tool Airfix kit?

I believe it is the new tool Airfix kit, badged as a starter kit complete with paints and glue, none of which I used for my model but handy spares anyway

Now there's a discussion for 'small talk'; what to do with all the unwanted acrylic paint?

Very nice build. Makes me want to obtain one too!

Very good job there. I have the Airfix Vampire in my stash and it good to find out about the canopy before I started building it -thanks for that ;-)

Very nice! What did you use for the silver?
Best wishes

It HAS to be the Airfix new tool. There has never been any other Vampire T11 tooled by a mainstream manufacturer. The only previous T11 kits were either vac formed or short run injection moulded kits.

It's a little gem. I have two in my stash.

I used a rattle can of silver as I don't have an airbrush and I don't like to see brush marks.

Well, that's a pretty good finish for a rattle can, that's for sure!
Best wishes
