Re: The home of gnomemeansgnome
While I dither over how to proceed with the PZL which has been occupying the Workbench of Endless Shame, I have attempted to prop up my flagging modelbuilidng mojo with other things. This is a 1:32nd scale 1965 Plymouth Barracuda that I built over 20 years ago. Now after close to two decades in storage I have trotted it out for a restoration. The original paintjob was removed with EasyOff, and all chrome surfaces on the coachwork were redone in Tamiya Aluminum and a light wash of flat black with a couple of drops of detergent to ensure the paint got right into the panel lines.
The interior just needed touching up and a wash as well.
So far, so good. I have sprayed it in light grey primer/surfacer and will see how soon I can get on with airbrushing the bodywork in a nice bright red. One of the Valiant-style tail lights has disappeared, so I am in the process of making a pair of new ones instead of trying to use the remaining one and a spare from scratch.

Yeah, the Barracuda was a stylish muscle car in all its phases.

Re: The home of gnomemeansgnome
A Revell B-29 I found in a thrift store last winter. Bought it for less than a dollar, which is about a dollar more than it was worth. Covered in what I believe was at least a couple of millimetres of house latex paint, missing a tail wing and apparently crashed and glued back together (badly) several times. Several hours of scraping and sanding off all that paint after a thorough dousing or two of EasyOff, steel wool, sweat and much choice use of Anglo-Saxon language followed. Everything glued back together, missing tail cut from sheet styrene and primer, glazing painted and waxed and then taped up. Now awaiting warmer outside temperatures for some rattlecanning in gloss black primer before I get on it with aluminum.

Re: The home of gnomemeansgnome
Is that a 1/144 scale B-29? I admire someone with the patience to mask up that kind of glass.

Re: The home of gnomemeansgnome
We shall see. Initially, I masked up the canopy from memory, but then remembered I had a book that had proper illustrations to base the masking on in a more accurate fashion. And yes I believe it is the 1970's Revell kit in 144th scale.

That's dedication! Looks like you've had your work cut out on the B29!
Best wishes

Re: The home of gnomemeansgnome
Oh man, I wish I had taken pics of it right after I first got it. You would all think I was nuts for taking it at all. I think most folks would have just pitched it in the trash. But I kind of dig doing what an acquaintance once called 'archeological modelbuilding'. If I can't save it, it will at least make for a nice plane crash garden ornament.

Re: The home of gnomemeansgnome
Yes, thanks. I have since added a teardrop radio fairing and mast, and am still waiting for it to be warm enough outside to prime it in gloss black. I really hope this cold weather doesn't prevent me from doing the same to the kits in my Matchbox build!

Re: The home of gnomemeansgnome
Well in spite of my failure to get the Stranraer done for the Matchbox Group Build, I will post pics of its belated completion here. In the meantime I took advantage of the slightly warmer weather that allowed me to spraybomb the Stran to do the same to the B-29. Soon I will get the aluminum down and then should be on the homeward side of the restoration.....
