Re: Anyone fancy a bomber build?
Now it's a generic bomber theme I'm in!
Il be building the Hasegawa B-47 Stalratojet which will go on display at the SMW 2017 Show on the Cold War SIG table.

Re: Anyone fancy a bomber build?
Thanks for clarifying that, strikes one off the choicesfredk wrote:The F4 Phantom II was primarily designed as a missle-only armed air defence fighter.
Although used as a bomber in the Vietnam war its primary function was as a B-52, F105, etcetera fighter defence thus the reason a gun-pack was developed for it then the E version with the gatling gun in the nose
Think Spitfire or P51; fighter first, late models [Spit.VIII and later] carried bombs but retained their fighter first role.

Re: Anyone fancy a bomber build?
I just got two Hasegawa Lancasters in the mail, one with a Tallboy and the other with a Grand Slam. I could do either one.
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

Re: Anyone fancy a bomber build?
Any ideas when this will take place?

Re: Anyone fancy a bomber build?
Apologies. I am getting little time for modelling at the moment, so don't want to commit to leading this in the near term. If somebody else wishes to take this on, please do!

Re: Anyone fancy a bomber build?
I'm happy to take it on a GBL if no one else fancies it
Best wishes

Re: Anyone fancy a bomber build?
Good man Iggie. Can we clarify what is meant by 'Bomber'? Not sure I have anything that would qualify.

Hi OT, I'll take that as an appointment as prospective GBL thenOld_Tonto wrote:Good man Iggie. Can we clarify what is meant by 'Bomber'? Not sure I have anything that would qualify.
Reading back through the thread, it seems that the concensus was for a generic bomber build, that is to say any aircraft designed from the outset to carry bombs (or a single bomb) as it's primary function. The ability to defend itself as a secondary function is permissable but not the reverse.
So, a Lancaster is in, a P51 with bomb racks is not.
Any thoughts regarding timing or world you like me to raise a poll thread?
Best wishes

Re: Anyone fancy a bomber build?
I'll play, timing & real-life dependent. Given that my stash leans heavily toward WW1 & 'tween wars, I may be pushing the "designed ... primary function" but I'm sure I'll find something that works.
A question: are experimental -- designed, built, flown, but not operational -- bombers allowed ?
Actually two: have you given any thought to GB length yet ?

Still up for this. I've got a couple of bombers in the stash that need built.
I could kill two birds with one stone for my collection - B-25B "The Ruptured Duck", flown by Captain Ted Lawson on the Doolittle raid, and featured in the film Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo!

In answer to your questions; experimental aircraft designed primarily to drop bombs, Yes
Timescale; I think six weeks as it is likely they're will be the odd for engined entrant (or bigger) and this will give a reasonable period without being excessive

Re: Anyone fancy a bomber build?
If I may make a suggestion, why not use the designation from the air forces themselves? For example, American aircraft would need to have a 'B' such as B-25, B-50, B-26, B-57, B-1B, or FB-111. The USAF used the 'B' to designate bombers. The same would apply to RAF aircraft such as Lancaster B. Mk.II, Mosquito B. Mk. IV, Canberra B.2, or Vulcan B.2. That should be an easy way to distinguish them from attack aircraft.

Re: Anyone fancy a bomber build?
That works for most Allied makes, but not all I suspect, and certainly not for Axis makes......
Any thoughts on timing or shall I post a poll thread?
