Daz's Piece of Cake Pigeon - **DONE**

Post by DazDaMan »

Yes, yes, it's another Buchon! :ha:

I've got one of these in the stash, and it's about the second-best Buchon kit in this scale (which isn't hard!)

Image

This will be another one for the movie collection, albeit this time as a TV star which appeared in the series Piece of Cake....

G-BOML was owned and flown by Nick Grace during the filming of the series. It was one of three aircraft used (one of the others being D-FEHD, which is the subject of my other build).

A very basic paint scheme - no codes or markings to speak of, so this should be a snap.

Buchon bits...

Would love it if Airfix were to do a Buchon - it's an important type in its own right!

Well, folks, normally I would have this done by now, especially as I've been on holiday since Wednesday, but I've been feeling as rough as a badger's bum for some reason and I've scarcely touched any plastic whatsoever!

Hopefully I'll be right by Monday so I can carry on.

Hope you feel better soon. Maybe it's Spitfire withdrawal symptoms???

Look forward to seeing some progress.

Well, I've managed to get the wings on, the fuselage filled and sanded and the top cowling on. I'll get pics later.

Story so far....

I'll need to find a pilot to fit the cockpit, as this one is actually slimmer than the Special Hobby version!

Good to see you are feeling better and back in the saddle; rapid progress on this now!
Best wishes

The spinner is being assembled and filled so that it will be modeled in-flight. I've found Nick to go in the cockpit, too.

Things have progressed a lot quicker on this Buchon that I might have expected.

The camouflage is almost done, and assembling all the major components is complete. I even managed to find a spare set of wing-mounted cannons in the other Buchon kit (G-BOML, of course, only being fitted with these during most of her warbird career).

I'll finish painting the camo over the next couple of days, with any luck.

Photos of the topsides of G-BOML in her Piece of Cake colours seem to be thin on the ground, so I've based the pattern on those used in the filming of Battle of Britain.

Image

At one point I considered changing tack and building G-HUNN, which was the other British-registered Buchon used in the TV series. It has a slightly different camouflage pattern which seems to have been better recorded!

Ah well.

Nick Grace is trying out the cockpit here, before he gets a paint job.

Painting? Done. Pilot? In. Canopy? On.

Not much left now, except to slap some decals on it!

I kinda enjoyed this one - it was a nice, simple build, although the swastikas I used from the spares box were a pain, so they got replaced with some others. Now all it needs is a Spitfire to sit behind!
