gnomemeansgnome sees double **DONE**

Post by gnomemeansgnome »

Test shot of the sprues for the A-Model Bf109Z. Probably made from whatever plastic was left in the mold, with a fair amount of flash to contend with as well. Some parts are probably going to have to be replaced. However I think it will build up nicely.

The fuselages seem to have come from a regular Bf109F kit, so the outer tailwing fittings are probably going to need a little surgery when I get on with it.

Prepped the major components, and putty where putty is need for now on the two 109F fuselages. With a few rubber bands and some eyeballing I wanted to mock up the whole thing to get a sense of where to proceed in the next few days.....

I certainly hope so. Can't decide if it will get a European scheme or maybe a desert (think JG 27 and 52 Me109F's) one instead.

The fuselages have been glued together and there will be much mirth and merriment tomorrow with what I suspect will be a sizable quantity of putty. The wing has been puttied where needed and sanded and now ready to be mated with the rest of the pieces, as is the cockpit, and Ofw. Hans von Schmitt is being touched up prior to being crammed in his office.

Puttied, sanded and now mated together with the wing. Should hopefully get primer very soon.

Thanks Iggie. The plastic, while nicely detailed, has been fairly resistant to sanding, and rather ho hum about paint as well. I hope to be priming it some time today and hope to have its full scheme by the weekend.

Finally wrestled it to a stage where paint is part of the picture. Masked the usual suspects sticking out here and there, primed it and am repeating the same paint as the Gustav but a different pattern. Some German Grey sploshed on top and when it's dry I will blutak and tape what I want to save before re-priming it. I also thought it best to reposition the airscrew of what I think will be the port side engine, as a ship like this would need handed engines and propellors to compensate for its known rather demanding flight characteristics.

This is an interesting beast GMG. Did it get beyond the prototype stage?

Yes it is Shaun, and I bought it from last year's Vancouver IPMS show for this Build, having not had much previous interest in it. All I have managed to glean from what I have read online is that only one prototype was ever built and that apparently it was never flown. So although it is a legitimate member of the 109 family, I am treating it as a 'what-if?' project as well. I call it a 'Whifferschmitt'.

I know, right? So I think that will be the name for this thing. Anyway, it is now all taped and masked and waiting for a Wet Coast sunny break, rare occurrence indeed. Then I can finish with the rattlecan portion of the programme.
