Yes, I realised the black was an undercoat but the Vulcan shape looks mean in the colour  Coming together well, this pair are going to look good when they're done!

I couldn't remember whether I'd seen a black one, or if I was just confusing it with the black Valiant :???:
I decided to give the B.1 markings for XA897 of 230 Operational Conversion Unit circa 1956 at RAF Waddington. My first attempt was to write the serials on clear decal paper, and though the results were not bad, they lacked the uniformity of printed decals; so I reverted to cutting out individual letters from the supplied sheets with additional As from Carpena.

The supplied decals are probably the worst I’ve experienced from Airfix; breaking up as they are applied. Even the small decals suffered this problem. Luckily I have two sets and resorted to coating the required markings with Microscale Liquid Decal Film.

Looks like you have a double post Ratch. Interesting stuff re the decals. I have experienced bad Airfix decals from the 90's and before I had heard of Microscale's Liquid Decal Film  Good job there of putting together your own markings.

After checking out these two I've borrowed 'Vulcan 607' from the local library. I've read a couple of his other books so I'm looking forward to it.
