Michael, well done for your first Blitz -- you have certainly met the criteria for tackling a subject, making good posts, and finishing.
Here's the rule on 2 x 12-hr, taken from the 1st post in the chat/signup thread:
"-- Each participant is expected to complete a kit of their choice, to a standard of their choosing, in a 24-hour period, with periodic (hourly or so) photo updates. There is a 'senior' (or 'wuss') option that allows the 24-hours to be split into two roughly equal periods with not more than 12 hours, preferably less, between them. There are no exceptions, excuses, extensions."
So yes, you can do that, it's my usual method..
Enamels are rough. Blitz are good with acrylics and rattle-can enamel. If you are going to brush enamel, it is wise to have tried it beforehand (before the Blitz) to measure the drying time. Maybe chose a different paint scheme For quite a while, my Blitz subjects were chosen for their gloss aluminum overall color that I could do from a rattle-can.
There is another trick, again test before the blitz -- give your enamel coat 3-4 hours then just overspray with a clear coat. The clear coat will dry over top the still damp enamel, but you can move on to another color, etc. It's a "cheat" but some guys have done well with it, or at least gotten away with it.
Again, way to go - welcome aboard !

Thanks John,
Good explanation. So you need to post on a regular or semi-regular basis, I see. I was able build the body of the plane to the point that I could paint within a
couple hours from 5:55am to 9:55am giving 12 hours til 9:55 that night for the paint to dry. I admit I rushed head and put a clear coat three hours early giving
the paint 9 hours to dry. I usually give my humbrol paint 12 to 24 hours to cure. Then 1 hour for the clear to dry to then apply the decals. 30 minutes then a
matt coat and 30-60 then the final matt coat. I put the bit and pieces that where not the base colour (painted separately) on to the plane. Lucky this kit had few
parts and one coat blue paint camo and just basic decals. Yes I rushed the body build doing many step at once and painted while it was still setting. I accounted
it to luck and less of basic build standard. I finished the build at 11:37 pm yes the plane was not dry/cured/set at that moment but i am sure as I was getting
much need sleep and rest surly it was so by 5:55 am next morning but did not wake up to check.
Thanks John. For your kind words!

Re: Michael's First Blitzbau 1:72 Vought F4U-1D Corsair Airf
Nice build. I think the bombs are olive drab though.
And I probably missed it but what happened to the canopy?

Hi Saxon,
I just when with airfix paint guide. Thanks I will know for the next Corsair (not the old airfix tooling).
I am just starting out modelling again. I had no eduard masking kit that i had for my 109's. Not good at masking canopy with tamiya tape, did not press the
tape down enough, apply to much enamel paint major paint bleed. I am going to use kit acrylics so i can clean up my mess canopy lines (not steady hand) with
water on q-tip or scrape with sharped sprue. Hopefully I do better on my current build Airfix's Zero....

Do you still have the canopy? You could paint it a solid colour. It's the way I like to do my kits as I think they look better. This is the effect I am talking about - http://ep.yimg.com/ay/singularselection ... lled-2.gif;
Same effect on actual aircraft - http://www.aegis-services-ltd.co.uk/wp- ... 072730.jpg;

Yeah it's a P-38 I didn't build it it was just used as a handy example of the style I am talking about. I also think it is a diecast model so pre-built.
Yep, blue for the canopy frames and maybe grey for the "windows"? Just depends on how much you want it to stand out. Black might be a little too close to the Navy Blue.
You can buy 1mm and 2mm masking tape as well on ebay and some hobby stores. Saves you having to cut out thin strips of tape yourself.

Did see that it was diecast... want to do a p-38 lighting Cool plane...Saxon wrote:Yeah it's a P-38 I didn't build it it was just used as a handy example of the style I am talking about. I also think it is a diecast model so pre-built.

Thanks Saxon, I will try a grey. I did not use my bendy tamyia 1 or 2 mm tape (white). I forgot and did not know that would work better! Thanks.
I used my thin tamiya yellow tape 5mm?
I forgot who, they mention the bombs should be olive drab, do have any idea. Airfix did not mention this in paint guide!
Re: Michael's First Blitzbau 1:72 Vought F4U-1D Corsair Airf
Hi Michael
I airbrush so will paint the whole canopy the base colour and then use 1 or 2mm masking tape to cover the frames then airbrush over with black or grey usually. It depends as I like it to be different to the main colour of the plane.
Allied bombs are generally olive drab. It was me who mentioned that.

Re: Michael's First Blitzbau 1:72 Vought F4U-1D Corsair Airf
I dont have a air brush as yet, I get it now 1-2 mm act as the mask to tape of the lines/frame.
I do not have a tin of Humbrol olive drab. Airfix did not mention this on the kit. I will pick one next month and maybe a p-40
Thanks for the pics and reference and the artwork is now my desktop for my mac.

It is a nice bit of art work. Glad you like it.
I just noticed on the Great Auk's thread here for Blitzbau that both of his kits have the painted over canopy style too if you wanted to check those out.
