Revell USS America - 05416

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

Revell USS America - 05416

Post by chrism »

With the Vasa being a slow progress build, I needed a little something else to fill in with, so out came this one, which I am building for a friend, and given how large it is turning out to be, I shall be glad to get it finished and passed on:

progress has been quite swift, and it has gone together very cleanly and easily. Like many nautical kits, it came with vac sails, which I detest, and so I am going to be making cloth ones, as the sizes of them are quite large and suitable for a sewing machine project alone .

That's my "Holy Grail" kit. Recently obtained and on a short list to be built. Going to be fun watching your build.

That would make a brilliant half hull mounted on the wall.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Thanks for the earlier comments. I am now calling this one "done". The sails were made from white cotton cloth (bed sheeting purchased by the metre from John Lewis store). Rigging thread and silk flags were my two major upgrades, over that supplied in the kit, but rigging blocks mostly were as supplied.

I will let images show the rest, as a picture says so much more than words:

Yep, that's a keeper for certain!
I agree about the sails; the straining and weathering look spot on
