Celt, let me introduce you to the Fokker D.VII..... :D

Space owl, glad to hear you're on board. There are definitely options that involve little or no rigging, especially by 1918.

Jratz, good suggestion. Not enough takers on the D.VII gb to do a stand-alone so it should probably be absorbed into the borg.

I know I have a D.VII lurking somewhere in the deep stash, but I have a box closer at hand that I know has a few great War era kits in it.

No, I've got to push out of the comfort zone.

BTW, just out of purely academic interest, what are they? :)

Other than control wires; The DR1 just has two cross wires between the cabane struts and two cross wires [sometimes 3] from fuselage to wheels. The D.VII has two wires, one each side, from cockpit to upper wing, and some, but not all have support wires from the fin to tail planes. The D.VIII has no wires afair
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Fokker used his allotment of wires on the Eindekker :)

And even that is a relatively easy rigging job given the single wing :-|

Purely hypothetically, you could build a:
- Hansa Brandenburg W.29
- Junkers J.1
- Junkers D.1

and more later, as they occur to me...
Plus the Fokkers mentioned by others.

Bear in mind though that there will be control lines and undercarriage (or float assembly) rigging for anything of this era. EZY line is your friend here.
The D.VIII has no wires afair
Control wires for ailerons, rudder and elevators, plus two control wires running from the fuselage to the wing, near the struts, plus two crossed rigging wires on the undercarriage. Not a lot as WW1 aircraft go, and not the headaches of interplane rigging, but they're still there.

One of the easier planes to rig, though. As clash pointed out, being a monoplane makes it easier.

BTW, I'm up for this one, although my stash/interests mean I'll have to select a subject carefully between this and the RAF 100th as my stash is mostly RAF/RFC/RNAS and more early than late. I'm sure I can muddle through.

Have you given any thought to length of the GB ?
I know it's a bit early yet, but this and the RAF 100th have got me thinking

Experience with the Sopwith Camel gb says that rigged models in 4 weeks is not going to happen. I'd say minimum 6 weeks but possibly 8. Thoughts?

8 weeks it is, then. Theme: Air War 1918 - any aircraft that was operational on any of the fronts in 1918, carrying markings from that time. Preference for types introduced or most active in 1918 and/or in the closing months of the war.

Proposed dates: 1st Oct - 30th Nov 2018

At this stage we have the following (tell me if this is right):

VickersVandal (GBL)
iggie
MarkyM607
Spaceowl
jRatz
celt (?)
gnomeansgnome (?)

Plus, potentially, DazDaMan with a Fokker D.VII as that gb just doesn't look like a starter.
