So, the new Malta Story Spit is done....

The camouflage scheme looks a bit haphazard, but that's because it was! The film company applied a simple "that'll do" scheme to the aircraft used in the flying sequences, with very basic markings applied.

Just before I started painting the model, however, I realised I was out of sand yellow paint, which I've used previously on Malta Story aircraft. Instead, though, I think I used something called "Africa brown" (another Revell Aqua-color paint), which isn't quite so bright as the sand yellow. I also had to use silver rather than aluminium on the undersides, but it looks fine.

Sounds like your colour scheme reflects the spirit of the movie-makers' paint job, because I'd have to say that "that'll do" very nicely.

Blimey, that was quick! Nice job, Daren, these models are a great insight into the world of film aircraft.

Anyone remember this one?

I acquired it in a box of rather battered model Spits and Me109s, and I wondered what I could do with it. I've found a few missing parts in the spares box, so I might try to actually build something from it for the movie collection.

Spitfire VBs have appeared in Battle of Britain, Pearl Harbor and Dunkirk, so one of these sill be the result!

Its media bias against the Hurricane, which is by far the better plane. :ha: I really enjoy your models Daz,most informative, still not fussed on the Spitfire though. :-D

Well, it just so happens that I acquired TWO Hurricanes yesterday, so at least one will be done as a movie model!

Much the same way Supermarine pinched the wings off Heinkels He 70 and stuck them on a spare fuselage and bobs your uncle a, Spitfire. :ha:

So, the pick-n-mix Spitfire is coming along in leaps and bounds!

Apart from the original Airfix Spitfire VB wings and fuselage, we have an Airfix Spitfire 22 cockpit, Spitfire Ia tailplane, canopy and undercarriage, and a Revell Spitfire VB spinner. There's also a pilot figure to go into the cockpit. The model will be displayed "gear up". Still need a radiator, oil cooler and air intake, but I'm sure the spares box will provide.

Painting should follow soon.
