Re: TeeELLs kitchen crafting kit creations
I find it a wonder that anyone would follow what I am doing - why? Because I can be such a modelling dummy! This evening I decided to apply the matt varnish coat to the Texan. Of course, being the consumate modelling professional, I checked that there was no dust or other debris anywhere on the model, especially anywhere really obvious - like the starboard upper wing surface! Or, at least, that is what I should have done. Fortunately, the enamel varnish was dry within 15 mins and a quick application of micromesh solved the problem (of course a wipe with white spirit, as soon as I saw the finish might have been easier!). 30 mins later, it was time for the second coat, at which point I reached for, and knocked over my airbrush mix of varnish! (I have overlooked telling you that I also filled, beyond overflowing, the lighter fuel tin in which I store White Spirit for ease of use).
Follow me at your peril.

I like to follow what you are doing, Tee, even though I don't say much, and even with the trial and error times. You seem to try things that I need a budge to think of, and give me 'that' small idea that just makes a model all the better.
Well done, I say. Keep it up and know that nothing ever goes 100% right.

Re: TeeELLs kitchen crafting kit creations
Today is my last opportunity to post anything meaningful (or even meaningless) before I depart to the sunny south east of the USA and Orlando, Florida.
I've no time to actually do anything (other than bung the undercarriage on the Texan) but take some final photos. The Texan needs reflectors in the landing lights before the lenses are fitted and a new pitot tube created from a hypodermic needle and acupuncture needle - to be honest I am astonished that the plastic original has hung-on for this long!
Typical - the sun is shining - still it is 'Cuba'!!
Here are some of my other Cuban Revolutionary aircraft:
This is one of 2 (possibly 3) ex RCAF Mustangs 'acquired' by the revolutionary air force. Damaged by 'friendly fire' on arrival at its base (there had, shortly before, been an airstrike by Batista government F47's) the aircraft only finally became serviceable to day before the revolution 'won'. If circumstances had been different then the world would have seen F47 vs F51 air to air combat?
An armed T33 one of the active participants in the 'Bay of Pigs' incident.
Following a break down in relations between USA and the Batista government, Batista turned to the UK to supply replacement aircraft for the ageing F47 fleet. The Sea Fury was offered, along with all the necessary weapons (including 3" rockets), these arrived post revolution. The few serviceable Sea Furies were used, again, during the 'Bay of Pigs' incident, with the 3" rockets proving very effective against the ships.
The Kingfisher was used during the Revolutionary was to bomb concentrations of government troops and vehicles.
This represents a Batista government aircraft. Post Revolution, the F47s were in no state to be pressed into service and with even less chance of obtaining spares these were disposed of.
Note the varying styles of national markings from 'use the same' on the Sea Fury, the star/triangle/bars of the Texan, F51 and Kingfisher to the circle/triangle/star of the T33. To be honest, I suspect the T-33 should have the earlier markings but there are so very few references or photos.

Re: TeeELLs kitchen crafting kit creations
Great collection Tony!
My only real 'themed' builds are my Fantasy F1 Aircraft (3 built so far) and my F16 builds (4 so far).....oh, and of course my 'has at least two wings' collection (loads so far!)
Have a great time away, watch out for the croc's (or is that aligators?)

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Re: TeeELLs kitchen crafting kit creations
Iggie, I have the Cuban MiGs to complete. The MiGs 15, 17, 19, 21, 23 (both varieties) and 29.
Then, of course, I still have the aircraft of 29(F) Sqn and aircraft I've flown. I may have to succumbe to the Canberra as a new model is being released at the weekend.

The Texan has turned out nicely, Tony and that is an excellent collection of models in Cuban markings. We'll still follow your builds come what may - if every member on here who makes regular dumb errors in the modelling room left the forum there would hardly be anybody left

Re: TeeELLs kitchen crafting kit creations
Lol, Shaun I wasn't planning on leaving (stop groaning you 'orrible lot!), I just wanted you all to be aware, be very aware not to do everything I do! The top question is 'what shall I make a mess of next'? It is just possible I might get some time tomorrow to make the pitot tube and fit the landing lights on the Texan, but we shall see - surely I cannot make a mess of that!

That's quite a magnificent collection of Cuban birds you've got there TeeELL. The little history lesson was much appreciated to my edification. Your Texan is coming along most wonderfully and has every appearance of finishing up a worthy stable-mate to your fine collection.
